Team Guidelines
The following guidelines are intended to keep teams fair and competitive for all. Please read carefully and enjoy your experience playing in The Volley Project tournament series.
- Registration:
- Each individual is encouraged to register himself/herself.
- An individual player may only be listed on one roster.
- Team Creation:
- Team captains create the team and then invite and approve only their full-time teammates.
- Register your team for the highest level of play they are capable of playing (please refrain from sand-bagging!)
- Rosters and Eligibility:
- Teams rosters can be considered complete with as few as four (4) members.
- Team rosters must be filled out at the beginning of the tournament with all players names who are participating that day. The roster may be changed during the day. This roster will be collected by the Tournament Director at the end of the day.
- Teams may begin a tournament with as few as 5 players (or fewer in the event of extreme circumstances), in which case they would lose the turn of service when it came to the missing player's turn to serve. Tournament directors reserve the right to require that the ghost player actually fills a spot on the court. Some may allow play with 3 front row players at all times; others might require the position is filled by the ghost player. (Please note, the Akron Rec Bureau tournaments will always require that the ghost fills a front row position.)
- In the event of injury or other extreme circumstance, a team will be permitted to continue with less than 5. Of course, it is highly recommended (and in your team's best interest) to bring at least six players to the tournament.
- When appropriate or necessary, women are permitted to play on a men's team.
- Substitutions:
- For tournaments, please recruit only one substitution from a higher level of play.
- To earn points for the tournament, at least four of your regular rostered players must participate. If you chose to play with fewer than four rostered players, you are welcome to compete and go to playoffs but the seeding points will only be awarded to the teams with a majority roster.
- Subs can be added the day of the tournament but waivers will need to be completed and registration details will need to be provided before he/she can participate.
- Uniforms:
- Teams should have shirts of the same color with visible numbers on the front or back. However, if a case arises where is not possible at any given tournament, a team and/or player will not be penalized for being out of uniform. You're welcome to tape numbers to a uniform so long as it doesn't create a safety hazard (this is the discretion of the tournament director).
- Libero uniforms should be noticeably different from other team uniforms. Numbers on the libero uniform are recommended but not necessarily required.
- TVP Championships:
- The TVP Championships will be at the Akron Sports Center on the weekend of April 21 and 22, 2012. AA and A divisions on Saturday, BB and B divisions on Sunday. Teams must have played in 2 regular season events to be eligible for the Regional Championships. New teams to TVP that participate in any other series in which standings are kept may play in the Championships. Teams without some point of reference will only be allowed to play in the highest division available (ie. Womens AA or Mens AA).
As part of the mission and vision of The Volley Project, we understand that situations arise that could compromise your entertainment. These guidelines have been established to make it easier for us all to participate. We still encourage a professional environment, etiquette, and good sportsmanship to protect the integrity of the sport of volleyball. Please make these recommendations a part of your team's priorities this season.
