PostHeaderIcon FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Can players be listed on two teams?

The short answer is no.  The ultimate goal of organized volleyball is to be part of a team for the entire season.  Sure, you can sub on other rosters.  But when it comes to identifying which team specifically you're part of, please pick one.  If you need to change teams at some point in the year, that's understandable (it's like getting traded).  We can make adjustments to rosters when necessary but, in all fairness, try to get the group together and keep it together.

What's the minimum that we can do for uniforms?

Uniforms shouldn't be a big deal.  It's preferred that everyone looks like a team (you probably prefer it, too).  What's most important is that there is something (hopefully a number) visible that allows scorekeepers to keep track of service rotations and overlaps.  Please pick a team color and get some numbers printed on shirts.  The libero "uniform" is even easier.  Just make the libero look like he or she is on some other team (give him/her a different colored shirt entirely).

To summarize, please line up same color shirts with a medium-to-large size number on the front or back.  It would be great if the shirts are all similar but whatever you have that makes you feel like a team should work just fine.

What if I need a sub at regionals?

No problemo.  It would be tough for someone to sub on two different teams the same day...  But if you play on Saturday and need someone that is due to play on Sunday, you're welcome to it.  Please remember, though, for the sake of fairness, bringing ringers down to help you win is frowned upon.  As the season progresses, you'll see how teams are seeded and you'll see a definite division between those upper level teams.  If need someone from a higher level, you're allowed to recruit one but, please, keep it fair (or move up a division :).

How's this seeding system going to work?

Good question.  We'll figure it out on the fly (just kidding).  The seeding system will work like a basic RPI.  By division, all teams will start on a level playing field.  You move up when you win.  You move down when you lose.  If you beat a team that is ranked higher, you move up faster than if you beat a team ranked lower than you.  Unlike other sanctioning bodies, if you win, you can only move up the rankings!  We'll keep a chart of each division published online so you can track your standings as the season progresses.  For a brief description of how the rating system works, please click here.

How does TVP provide this service without charging any fees?

The Volley Project is all about making it simple.  The tournament directors are dedicated to giving you and enjoyable experience.  TVP gives them an option to make it more enjoyable.  They have a number of costs involved in running a tournament (heat, refs, lights, equipment, etc.).  A very small part of the overall cost is right here on this web site.  The tournament directors are budgeting about $5 of every team registration fee to maintaining TVP.  It will cover the website, tracking all of the points, maintaining standings, and will hopefully be enough to make things even better in future years.  It's not much -- less than $1 per person at every tournament.
